The Verdantas Team (as Flatwoods Consulting, Inc.) was retained by Mosaic Fertilizer, LLC to install and monitor Environmental Transect Monitoring (ETM) permanent transects to satisfy requirements within the Mosaic Environmental Management Plan (EMP) developed during the Integrated Water Use Permit (IWUP) application process (Permit No. 11400.025). The purpose of the EMP is to provide reasonable assurance that onsite wetlands not proposed for mining, offsite wetlands, and nearby existing legal users will be protected from potential dewatering impacts during the Mosaic mining process. The ETM protocol required the establishment of permanent transects across wetlands that are located outside, but within close proximity to proposed mining areas. Flatwoods established transects prior to mining to collect baseline data and will continue monitoring them annually during mining operations. In addition to these transects, evidence of soil subsidence was measured during the baseline event and will continue to be measured annually. Flatwoods compiled, organized, stored and analyzed all ETM data collected as part of the environmental monitoring and created a Microsoft Access database for all ETM data; these data was tabulated in Access and annual compliance reports were created.
