Chief Legal & Sustainability Officer
Karla King serves as Chief Legal & Sustainability Officer at Verdantas, where she leads the firm’s legal, risk, compliance, and sustainability functions in support of Verdantas’ mission to deliver innovative, resilient, and sustainable solutions for clients and communities.
With a multidisciplinary background spanning environmental engineering, law, and executive leadership, Karla brings a pragmatic, business‑focused approach to managing risk while enabling growth. She oversees corporate governance, contract strategy, claims management, professional licensure and regulatory compliance, enterprise risk management, and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) strategy and reporting. Her work focuses on strengthening operational excellence, advancing responsible business practices, and embedding sustainability into both Verdantas’ internal operations and client-facing services.
Prior to transitioning into legal leadership, Karla practiced as an environmental engineer, specializing in stormwater and wastewater infrastructure design. This technical foundation informs her collaborative approach with project teams and clients, allowing her to bridge legal, regulatory, and technical considerations effectively.
Karla is a licensed Professional Engineer and an attorney admitted to practice in Massachusetts. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil/Environmental Engineering from Northeastern University, a Master’s degree in Engineering Management from Tufts University, and a Juris Doctor from Massachusetts School of Law.
