Verdantas provided detailed engineering services to support the interconnection of a battery energy storage system through the design of a 230 kV generation tie (Gen-Tie) transmission line. The approximately one-mile line includes both underground and overhead segments and required close coordination with existing utility infrastructure to ensure constructability and long-term performance.
A significant portion of the alignment was installed underground within a constrained right-of-way adjacent to existing utility corridors, requiring precise routing and coordination to avoid conflicts. The overhead portion of the line crosses a train yard and a major water channel, which necessitated tall transmission structures to meet clearance requirements while maintaining system reliability.
The project site presented additional complexity due to liquefiable soils in a high seismic region. Verdantas addressed these conditions through advanced geotechnical evaluation and customized foundation design to support structural stability under seismic loading scenarios.
To optimize the design, the team incorporated load management strategies and developed detailed transmission models to balance structural demands across underground and overhead components. Early-stage modeling and engineering support during the bid phase also helped inform planning decisions and improve overall project feasibility.
