Forest Lawn Stormwater Park transforms the former Market Street Elementary School site into a multi-benefit stormwater and community asset that protects neighborhoods from flooding while creating new opportunities for outdoor learning.
Verdantas partnered with the ABC Water & Stormwater District to reimagine the flood-prone, low-lying property as a restored stream corridor with an engaged floodplain, walking trails, and open green space. By daylighting a previously buried stream and reconnecting it to its floodplain, the project allows stormwater to slow, spread, and be stored during heavy rain events—reducing downstream flooding and improving water quality within the Cranberry Run watershed.
Beyond stormwater management, the park was designed to support ecological restoration and community connection. Native plantings, reforestation, and habitat enhancements help restore natural systems while providing a passive recreational space for residents. The site also serves as a living classroom for the Boardman Local School District, where students participate in hands-on learning tied to water quality, ecology, and watershed science—continuing the site’s legacy of education in a new, open-air setting.
Forest Lawn Stormwater Park demonstrates how nature-based solutions can deliver resilience, environmental benefits, and lasting value for both communities and ecosystems.
