For many years, Omni Mount Washington, LLC has sought to expand its hospitality offerings at Bretton Woods by adding a year‑round, on‑mountain lodge and increasing hotel guestroom capacity. The goal of these improvements is to elevate the experience at the Bretton Woods Ski Area while providing modern, resort‑level accommodations that serve visitors throughout the entire village. The broader resort area includes the historic six‑story Mount Washington Hotel, two golf courses, the Bretton Woods Ski Area, and several smaller inns and motels. Although the following efforts represent separate projects, they are interconnected within the Bretton Woods village and required a unified planning approach.
Working alongside SE Group—known for their ski area planning expertise—Verdantas provided engineering, design, permitting, and construction support rooted in a deep understanding of the existing site infrastructure. Each project began with a clear definition of the client’s goals, expectations, and budget, ensuring solutions that balanced operational needs, environmental considerations, and long‑term vision.
Bretton Woods Ski Area Improvements
With lift engineering provided by Doppelmayr USA, Verdantas and SE Group supported the construction of a new 5,900‑linear‑foot, 7‑passenger gondola, an investment of approximately $10 million. The gondola provides direct access for skiers and the general public to a new 15,000‑square‑foot, two‑story On‑Mountain Lodge designed for dining, events, weddings, and year‑round use atop the ski area.
Supporting infrastructure included:
- A new on‑mountain well and water system with adequate storage to meet fire protection requirements.
- A specialized effluent‑only gravity sewer system connecting the lodge to the existing base‑area sewer force main approximately 6,000 linear feet downslope.
- A pressurized propane gas supply system extending from the base area to the mountaintop lodge.
The total estimated cost of these improvements was $18 million.
Mount Washington Hotel Guestroom Addition
Verdantas also supported the expansion of the Mount Washington Hotel through a new four‑story, 68‑room addition that connects the existing spa/conference center with the hotel and heated pool area. The addition required careful architectural and site planning to align with the historic character of the original hotel while upgrading guest capacity.
Infrastructure improvements for the addition included new water, wastewater, electrical, and propane utility extensions, as well as the development of a new pedestrian and bike path connecting the hotel campus.
