Verdantas has extensive experience supporting small, community‑owned water systems as they navigate critical infrastructure challenges. In 2018, the Sanbornville Water Precinct in New Hampshire—serving approximately 400 customers—was approaching both financial and operational collapse. Verdantas was brought in to help stabilize, modernize, and plan for the system’s future in close partnership with newly appointed community commissioners.
We secured USDA funding for a Preliminary Engineering Report (PER) to prioritize upgrades to a deteriorating distribution system made up of seven miles of corroded 1939 steel pipe. Verdantas also developed an Asset Management Program and obtained $30,000 in SRF funding to support long‑term planning and capital improvement needs.
To address immediate risks, we facilitated $600,000 in emergency funding from the Drinking Water Trust Fund and the Community Development Block Grant program for a system looping project, completed in 2020. Additional funding support included $3.6 million from the SRF program and $1 million from the Northern Border Regional Commission, helping the project rank second on the state’s priority list.
Following the PER, we assisted with a successful USDA Rural Development application, securing $100,000 for a hydrogeological investigation to identify and develop a new water source. Construction for Phase I is complete, and Phase II received an additional $2.1 million in ARPA and AWTF funding.
This project demonstrates Verdantas’ ability to deliver full‑service engineering support—from assessment and planning through design, funding acquisition, and construction oversight—while building trusted, long‑term relationships with clients and funding agencies.
